Archery Beginners Course Details
Courses run for three weeks on a Saturday or Sunday
- Sessions: 3
- Session duration: 3hrs
- Equipment: Provided
- Participants: 10
- Bow type: Recurve
Venue
The archery beginners course is held in the Sports Field or Sports Hall at St Christopher’s School, Stockwell Grove, Wrexham. When you arrive one of the (three) school gates will be open. You may park in the car park, then if you walk towards the school field. There aren’t any facilities for refreshments, but you are more than welcome to bring a flask, drinks, food etc if you wish.
Clothing
We would recommend comfortable casual clothing, which is not too loose-fitting as this can get in the way. Also, sturdy shoes or trainers are recommended and no open-toed shoes. We also ask that anyone with long hair makes sure they have the means to tie it back – long hair and bowstrings are not a great combination.
Cost
The cost of the course is £60 per person for adults £40 for juniors (under 18). No refunds can be given to anyone who drops out during the course.
Anyone not able to complete three consecutive weeks may still be able to reach the required standard. This will be judged on a case-by-case basis during the course.
The Archery Beginners Course Details
The course covers basic archery instruction using Olympic style recurve bows. We can also offer the opportunity to use some other bow types during the course, once we feel the individual archer has a good enough grasp of the basics.
Our aims for each archer are:
- To familiarise you with the equipment
- To ensure you understand and can shoot within the safety rules
- To get you shooting safely at reasonably short distances of up to 10 yards
- To begin to develop a consistent shooting form and style that you can build on
The aim of the course is to get each archer to a standard allowing him or her to shoot unsupervised as Wrexham Bowmen or any other Archery GB club. We cannot guarantee each archer will reach that standard.
The membership year runs from October 1st to September 31st. If you join in-between those dates, there is a prorated discount. Memberships are Adult 25+, 18-24 and Junior
Equipment
And of course a bow, arrows etc. Like any sport, you can spend little, or as much as you’ve got! We’re happy to give advice and club members often have really good quality second-hand gear available.
Shooting Days
It is worth noting that Wrexham Bowmen only currently shoot as a club on a Sunday. Please keep this in mind when considering one of our courses and potentially joining the club.
If there are courses available they will be listed here on the site. If no courses are listed or they are full we advise you to follow us on Twitter @wxmbowmen, or our Facebook group as this is how we will release details of new courses and when they are available to book, send us a message via the contact page and we will add you to a waiting list or you can just keep checking back on the site.
